I was at Fillmore Glen State Park yesterday. I had hoped to hike up the gorge trail to get photos of the various waterfalls but the trail was closed for repair work. That was a major disappointment. But these things happen so we made the best of it and decided to hike along the south rim trail. It was a nice hike through the woods where we could hear the rushing water but couldn’t get glimpse of it until about 2 miles in. At that point we reached a small bridge that crossed over the gorge. The picture below is looking upstream from the bridge. I took this picture at around 1:30 when the sun was almost directly overhead which resulted in strong shadow and highlight areas. Under these conditions, a HDR image (High Dynamic Range; using 3 exposures in this instance) is a good option. This HDR was taken with a 5D Mark III at f/11, ISO 100, 32 mm focal length and an average time of 1/12 second. I processed the HDR so it had a natural appearance instead of strong contrasts and “cartoon” like colors. I hope the park staff can get the bridges repaired before too long – this is a great park to go and visit.
