I was on a walk at the Beaver Lake Nature Center yesterday hoping to get some fall foliage pictures. Unfortunately the leaves are still in the process of turning and the colors were not quite what I was looking for. As I wandered along the path I began to think about different ways of seeing my surroundings and something I had read last week came back to me about changing your perspective. You can go big or go small and given the overcast skies and forest cover I decided to go small. When I saw this stump with these mushrooms I thought it looked like a tiny mountain with some trees on the mountain’s slopes. The weathered stump with mossy patches added to my impression.
I wanted to blur the background so that the nearby trees wouldn’t be quite as obvious and I got down onto the ground so I was looking upwards to give the perspective of vertical ascension. Settings: 85mm, f/6.3, 1/100 sec at ISO 4000.
