While I was in Ireland, we visited the Loop Head Lighthouse which is a major landmark on the northern shore of the Shannon River in County Clare. The lighthouse is on a cliff overlooking the sea. The day I was there the wind was blowing so hard it almost knocked me over! If you want, you can walk around the lighthouse and at one point the loop passes near a narrow passageway where the water was so turbulent that the sea foam was blowing up into the air on the wind and falling down around me on the ground like huge snowflakes. This was one of my favorite places that we visited. We had the good fortune to go into the lighthouse while we were there. The photo below is of Maria’s uncle (a native of Milltown Malbay and an excellent tour guide) walking back toward the lighthouse. A fun fact… there has been a lighthouse at this site since 1670. Talk about some history!!!
