This little red panda is at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY. It was hanging out near a tree top nibbling on the branches. These pandas are little mammals found in the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. They aren’t really pandas, but are more closely related to weasels or raccoons. They are super cute though! Unfortunately, they are an endangered species with fewer than 10,000 left in the wild. They are hunted for their pelts and bushy tails. Habitat destruction (deforestation) is also a problem.
The good news is that two new baby red pandas were born at the zoo on June 25, 2015. They are just cute little balls of fur! I’ll post a picture I took of them later.
