The moon was rising – and it was BIG and ORANGE and looked both intriguing and sort of scary all at the same time. It was HUGE! I wanted to take a picture of it, but I wasn’t home and it was rising fast and getting smaller and whiter by the second. It started to be a race against time! And then as I was driving past this old industrial park I caught a glimpse of the moon through the buildings and thought “Hey… I can pull over somewhere near here and maybe catch a shot through the fence…” So that’s what I did. I pulled over in a nearby parking lot and walked about a tenth of a mile back along the fence where I had both a view of this building and the moon. I was a little nervous that somebody would see me and ask what I was doing, but nobody did. I managed to get this picture with the moon in the background (and by ‘background’ I mean ‘see that tiny pinkish dot?’) and building reflection in the foreground in the pond, handheld, through the fence. If I figure out how to remove the fence shadow from the picture I’ll post it here. Lesson learned – planning ahead and knowing the time of when and where the moon will rise or the sun will set is essential unless you really want a photo with a small bright pink dot in it, a fence blocking your view, and security possibly chasing you away…
