This Canadian goose was standing a little ways offshore. The goose was so still that I wondered if it was alright or if it was in distress. At first I wasn’t sure if its feet weren’t frozen into the ice but upon closer inspection it looked like it was just a case of cold feet. After a few minutes I decided to move along in case I was the real problem. Usually the geese run or swim away from me when I approach. This particular bird just stood there and occasionally turned his/her head. There was a little duck (?) swimming around near the goose keeping it company. At least that’s the way it looked when the smaller bird sort of snuggled up to the goose and sat next to it for a few moments. I heavily cropped the image to eliminate distracting background elements and to emphasize the reflections of the goose and sky in the melted water. I really should have switched to the 70-300mm lens to take the picture but I hadn’t brought it with me. I wanted to travel light and I wasn’t sure how muddy or icy the trail would be. You didn’t ask but I’ll tell you anyways… It was slippery in spots but not muddy. The air was warm and it was great being outside!

“it was just a case of cold feet” HA! Very funny. And I love the reflection of the goose in the water, too.
